Preparation of Regional Plan for Waste Management and Strategic Environmental Assessment for the East Planning Region

On March 17, 2014 in Skopje , organized by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, held a meeting and presentation of the Proposal - Plan for Waste Management for the East Planning Region.

The meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, attended by the mayors of eleven (11 ) municipalities within the east planning region, Head of Centre for Development of East Planning Region, Head of the Administrative Office of the Regional Board for Waste Management in the east planning region, as well as other representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Physical planning .

Team leader of the project, Mr Lolos Teofanis presented the analysis of the situation with waste and explain the proposed scenarios for waste management in the region for which the mayors of East region need to state in the next period. He informed that there is a complete financial analysis and calculated investment and operating costs.

The decision to utilize the European pre-accession funds, the East and Northeast regions are promote as leaders in establishment of a modern and innovative integrated system of waste management in the country. This approach allows opening new horizons in the field of waste management , which is an important consideration in protecting the environment, said Temelkovski. The east region, he added, is leading in utilization of IPA funds.

According to the Mayor of Probishtip and Chairman of the Council for the Development of East planning Region, Mr. Toni Tonevski, the goal today is to review all previously implemented activities and project progress .

- The region, which is leader in using of the IPA funds, we expect that by the end of 2017 will establish an integrated system for managing waste and this will achieve two positive effects - permanently solve the problem of illegal dumps, and built a modern system of waste management, and this will contribute to environmental protection with European funds, said Mr Tony Tonevski.
